Partnership with J-Life Africa
Newton Conant, long-time friend of HCBC, had a passion for inner city ministry. He spent 50 years serving a church in Camden, NJ. Pastor, teacher, chaplain, missionary, he first went on a misson to Africa in 1970, at 70 years old. After his passing at the age of ninety-six, a scholarship was established at HCBC to help fund education for young people desiring to do inner city youth ministry.
In recent years, HCBC has become acquainted with J-Life Africa. This ministry is directed at raising up pastors and leaders on the African continent to bring young people to Christ. Starting in South Africa in 2001, J-Life now has leaders in 23 countries.
The key components to J-Life’s ministry are:
Jesus is our Model
Disciple-Making is our Mission
Organic Ministry is our Method
Gospel is our Message
Holy Spirit is our Means
The Church is our Medium
Love is our Motive
Fruit is our Measure
Relationships are our Momentum
Leading Servants is our Motto
Youth are our Mandate
These components reflect not only the work of Newton Conant throughout his life, but they also reflect the vision of HCBC. You can learn about J-Life on their website (jlife.org). HCBC has supported J-Life by sending funds from the Conant Scholarship Fund. This money will make it possible for several students to be trained at J-Life, something that otherwise would have been impossible for those students.
